THE STORY

From post-war Vietnam to post-Katrina New Orleans, three generations of refugees reveal how survival became a way of life.

After the Fall of Saigon, millions fled Vietnam in search of safety, home, and a future beyond war. One group of refugees eventually settled in Versailles, a Section 8 housing project along the bayou in New Orleans East. What began as relocation became a deeply rooted community, as families rebuilt their lives, opened businesses, raised children, and transformed displacement into belonging.

Then, in 2005, Hurricane Katrina forced them to flee once again.

Told through the memories of three generations, Echoes of Vietnam traces a journey from the Fall of Saigon to the floodwaters of Katrina — revealing how the experience of war, migration, faith, and family prepared a community to endure another catastrophe. More than a story of disaster recovery, the film is a portrait of people who know what it means to lose everything, begin again, and still find their way home.
